ImmuneGamma®

1. History

In the early 80s, Soviet scientists, under the direction of the government, conducted experiments to analyze the cellular structure of Lactobacillus strain of bacteria into several sub-molecules. They discovered substances with strong effect on the immune system and called them natural immune modulators.

By the end of the 1990s, scientists from the US started to approach this technology and focused on refining the extraction process, giving birth to many products with different immune modulating properties.

In 2009, the Allergy Research Group (USA) introduced their latest product, extracted from the bacteria Lactobacillus fermentum with the enzyme extraction technology, providing maximum purity. This is ImmuneGamma.

2. Definition & uses

ImmuneGamma® contains Muramyl Polysaccharide Glycan Complex (MPGC), a non-toxic purified extract of Lactobacillus fermentum. The researches have shown that ImmuneGamma® enhances the immune system, increases the production of interleukin 1, 6, 12 and stimulates lymphocyte proliferation of the human body.

Muramyl peptides have been shown to exert several biological activities including potentiation of humoral and cell-mediated immunity and stimulation of natural resistance.

A key mechanism of the resistance to infection is activation of macrophages. Macrophage activation results in increased production of microbicidal oxygen radicals like superoxide and peroxide, and in increased secretion of inflammatory cytokines like interleukin-1β and TNF-α (Tumor necrosis factor-alpha). These cytokines, besides activating neutrophils, B lymphocytes and T lymphocytes, act on the central nervous system to induce physiological responses like fever and sleep. These physiological responses also aid in combating infection. Muramyl peptides also activate macrophages and other cells of the immune system to kill cancer cells. Muramyl peptides and similar agents will become more important as therapeutic agents in the future due to increasing resistance of microbes to antibiotics and increasing numbers of patients with immune deficiencies.
